Gas work is the one plumbing category where close-enough does not exist. A new run for a range or dryer, a tee for an outdoor grill, a line extension for a tankless water heater, or a repair on a corroded section is a licensed install, permitted where required, and tested before it goes live.
Nampa, Caldwell, and the older towns run natural gas service. The rural properties often run propane from a yard tank, and the line work behind either is the same trade: sized runs, correct fittings, proper shutoffs, and a pressure test before lighting.
The one call that skips the form: a gas smell inside or near the meter means step out, do not flip switches, and call the gas utility's emergency line first. Once the utility clears the scene, the plumber handles the line-side repair past the meter.
Gas piping work in Idaho goes through licensed plumbers and permits where the jurisdiction requires them, the same as any plumbing install. The estimate should say what gets permitted and pressure-tested; if it does not mention testing, ask.
