How to verify an Idaho plumber
Idaho licenses plumbers, which means the credential is a lookup away. Asking for the license number and running it takes less than five minutes and sorts the field before anyone opens a wall.
What Idaho actually licenses
Two things through the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses: the journeyman plumber (the individual doing the work) and the plumbing contractor (the business employing them). Nampa's permit rules require the work to be performed by a licensed journeyman plumber under an Idaho plumbing contractor license, so both numbers matter on a real job.
Where to check
The DOPL online search at web.dbs.idaho.gov runs the lookup by name or license number and shows the status, the issue date, and any disciplinary record. A plumber who hesitates on the number is answering the question without words; a legitimate one does not mind being looked up.
What the lookup cannot tell you
Whether the plumber shows up on time, prices honestly, or stands behind the work. The license answers the legal floor; the rest comes from the estimate conversation, the reviews on the plumber's own listings, and whether the scope on paper matches the work discussed. Verify the license, then interview the plumber, in that order, and the check costs you nothing.
